Pugilists box each other at Sugathadasa

TheAmateur Boxing Association Men’s and Women’s Intermediate Boxing meet is underway at the Sugathadasa Stadium 27-29th September with the finals on the 30th September 2011. The competition organized to boost the Sri Lankan pugilist’s experience will be worked off in the Intermediate category for the below weight classes.

Male and female boxers between the ages of 17-34 years will face elimination bouts to find Sri Lanka’s future winners at National Levels. These pugilists will be freshersand those who have not won the National Level Boxing meet.

Commencing daily at 4pm, the rounds will be conducted according to the AIBA rules which came in to effect in January 2010. The winners and runners-up in this tournament will be eligible to participate in open ABA meets such as the coveted Layton Cup, Clifford Cup and the National Championships, thereafter.

The Men’s rounds will be three minutes each and a bout will consist of three rounds. The Women’s bouts will consist of four rounds of two minutes each. Both genders will be given an interval of one minute between each round.Medals and Certificates will be presented to the winners and runners-up of each bout.

This year’s competition is expected to contain a high standard of Boxing and a larger contingent has   submitted applications from all Boxing Clubs in the island. With the encouragement given to the sport in the country we can proudly experienceintense competition.

The Chairman of ABA Medical Commission and Former Asian Medical Commission Secretary Dr FA Rajakulandran will be the Chief Guest for the finals on 30th Sept 2011.
