Chaminda Wijekoon of Sri Lanka qualified himself to the 1500M Semi final race this morning at IAAF World Championship, in Daegu-Korea. Wijekoon, who finished the race 7th, managed to set a new Sri Lanka record (3:39.61).

Chaminda’s new record of 3:39.61 is also tipped to be his personal best. Daniel Kipchirchir Komen of Kenya was the first to finish the race at 3:38.54. Matthew Centrowitz of the US finished the race just before Chaminda, with a timing of 3:39.46.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Christine Merrill who ran in the Women’s 400m hurdles event, couldn’t get through to the semi final race as she finished the race 6th with a time of 57.05. Jamaica’s Kaliese Spencer who ran in lane 3 ended the race 1st, recording a time of 54.93.

Vera Barbosa of Portugal who finished the race before Christine, managed to squeak-in to the semi final race with a timing of 56.31.

Chaminda Wijekoon would be taking part in the second semi final of 1500m Mens on Thursday (01).
