Defending champions Kandy SC sailed through to the finals by beating Air Force SC 15-07 at the Bogambara stadium Kandy on Saturday. Kandy SC collected their points with three tries while Air Force SC collected their points with a solitary goal. The condition underfoot was slippery and did not favour both sides style of with both set of forwards having to play out of their skins to take the ball forward. However the ever green fly half Fazil Marija stood out for the Kandy team.

In the early minutes both teams had their chances from penalties but Roshan Weeraratne (KSC) and Radhika Hettiarachchi (AFRC) failed to convert those chances to points. The try scored by Pradeep Liyanage in the 27th minute was off Kandy playmaker Fazil Marija who created the much needed space for Liyanage to run on to. The Airmen were strong in the attack but they lost crucial lineouts and were scrappy in set pieces. Kandy veteran jumper and skipper Senaka Bandara made life hard for the AFSC jumper Wasamba Senarath as he towered over his opponent during most line outs. But their great awareness and pressure on their opponents prompted a foolish kick ahead by KSC Dinesh Kumara found air force fly half Chanaka Chandimal who offloaded to Mithun Hapugoda who went over for a try.

Early in the second half Kandy’s H. Kalhara was sin-binned and Kandy was down to 14 men. AFSC was in the lead but that lead didn't last too long as Kandy playmaker Fazil Mariija's hard work paid off with a try by M. Jabbar in the 48th minute.KSC leading 10-07. 05 minutes later Air Force were penalized and given another yellow card by referee Dilroy Fernando. Air Force had their chances as their rolling maul was effective but unable to capitalized because of simple but punishing errors. In the 75th minutes after a shabby affair of kicking KSC Flanker Kasun de silva ended proceeding with a try, Fazil Marija combination unleashed the speed of Sanjeewa Jayasinghe who sprinted over 30 meters to score the last try of the day which wrapped up thing for KSC.
