The 1st leg defending champions, Southern Sharks kept their unbeaten run during the 1st day of the 2nd day winning all their games in the group stages.
Sharks led by experienced, Amjad Buksh gave in a superb display of rugby as they ran through their opponents in grand style. Edwin Cocker was the architect for the Sharks as the New Zealand 7’s specialist played as the playmaker for several tries. The two local Sharks veterans Amjad Buksh and Dilip Selvam, together with upcoming stars Dinusha Chathuranga and Srinath Sooriyabandara showed the way for the 1st leg champs as they notched up their 11th consecutive win today.
The Sharks recorded the highest score today against the Western Warriors where they hammered their opponents 45 points to 5. The good run of form kept the Sharks on top of their table as they accumulated 115 points for during the first day.
The North Western Blacks and the Jaffna Challengers upped their game today after a disappointing run during the 1st leg of the tournament. Uva Vipers who took the bronze medal during the first leg had an off day today as they went down to the depleted North Central Typhoons and the impressive Central Kings.
The runner-up team Central Kings showed glimpses of brilliance but failed to maintain their form from the 1st leg losing to the Jaffna Challengers during their 2nd match of the day. The Central Typhoons continued their dismal run in the tournament as they succumbed to their umpteenth defeat. The Eastern Eagles looked good in patches but failed to make an impact against some of the bigger teams in the tournament. Western Warriors led by CR&FC skipper Dushanth Lewke continued their decline as they amassed 103 points against which was the highest during the first day.
