ThePapare learns that the traditional clash between Royal College and S. Thomas' will take place in the month of April before the Singer Schools league kicks off in late April.
The move is because the two teams won't be playing in the same division in 2012 and the traditional fixture will need to be played outside the league fixtures. S. Thomas College was demoted to the B division last year after finishing the season as wooden spooners only winning one match in 11 games which was against Dharmaraja College.
The fixture will be played for the Michael Gunarathne Trophy which is one of the oldest trophy matches in the the country. The Annual Royal Thomian is also the biggest fixture for the Mount Lavinia lads. The match will be hosted by the Royalists at the RC Sports Complex and will be the first outing for the respective 1st XV teams. Last years game ended with the Royal team winning the encounter 22-7 after having trailed during half time 7 nil.
Royal College will be captained by star fly half and play-maker, Arshard Jamaldeen while S. Thomas' will be captained by utility back Randhika Peiris during the coming season.
