
The day two of the Asian Rowing Championship got under way on Friday at the Rowing center in Hwacheon, South Korea. The first day
of competition saw only heats been raced while on Friday both heats and some repacharges were held, it should be noted there are two competitions concurrently been held which are the Asian Rowing Championships and Junior Asian Rowing Championships(Under 18).
Sri Lanka are only taking part in the main Championships and are been represented by Sajeev De Silva, Shehan Mutugala (Lightweight Doubles), and Kushan Chandarakumara (Single Sculls)
In the Lightweight Doubles heat held,
the Sri Lankan combination finished fifth in their 6 lane heat and need to go through the repacharge if they are to qualify to the “A Finals”. The double from India took first place while China won the other heat and qualified straight to the finals.
While Kushan Chandarakumara finished fourth in his single sculls heat, he too has to progress through the repacharge. Kushan who had a outstanding nationals campaign where he bagged two medals (gold and silver) has been specially identified and groomed as a future medal prospect.
China, Korea, Japan and India dominated most of the other event and continued to affirm their dominance in Asian rowing circuit. Races will continue through weekend with the repacharges and semifinals been held on Saturday and Finals on Sunday.
