World Squash Federation (WSF) has decided to relocate the venue of 2012 WSF Men’s and Women’s World Junior Individual and Men’s Junior Team Squash Championships, from Egypt to Doha.
The World Junior Championship, which was originally scheduled to be worked off in Cairo from July 7th – 18th, would now be played in Doha, Qatar.
The decision to relocate the championship venue was made possible owing to an agreement between the WSF and QSF (Qatar Squash Federation). The organizing WSF had identified that the present unsettled state of affairs prevailing in Egypt have raised safety concerns to the participating young squash players, their coaches and parents, ThePapare.com learns.
Andrew Shelley, the Chief Executive of WSF, commenting on the relocation arrangements, said that the Federation was sad not to be able to return to Cairo, as they had hoped. “We know that the Egyptian Squash Federation would provide a welcome and a staging that would be second to none”, Shelley noted.
He also stated “while the country settles down we need to acknowledge the concerns of parents, coaches and squash federations where a junior event is concerned. We will need to wait a little longer but really hope that we can return to Egypt with a WSF Championship soon”.
“When we were informed that the WSF could not continue in Egypt we moved quickly to ensure that there could be certainty for the event,” said QSF President Nabeel Ali Bin Ali. “We look forward to welcome the best young players from across the world to Qatar next July,” added President Ali.
