Saman Thilakeratne through to Semis at the Janashakthi Open Squash Championships

 

Saman Thilakeratne, former National Champion and the top seed in the Mens Open category moved forward into the semi finals with easy wins over former Thomian Vice Captain Shamin Kannangara and Royalist Devin Ediriwera in the preliminary rounds matches .

Though Saman was given a scare by Shamin in the first set, he went on to finish things off quite easily 3-0.Devin was also no match to the Champion play maker as he won the match 3-0 in real quick time.

Meanwhile former Junior National Champion and former Joesephian Captain Kyle Condrad had a good come back when he had an upset victory over Gayath Sumanaratne. Kyle who was out of the game for some time used all his experience to overcome much fancied Gayath to take the match 11/9,11/7 and 11/3.However Kyle  lost to the 4th seed Dilshan Gunawardena  in the quarter finals who also cruised  forward with an easy win over S Sameera in the pre quarter finals. Third seed Eranga Alwis who won his pre quarter final match in a tough 4 setter with Royal College Captain   Nadeesh Herath went on to beat Kasun Abesekara in another hard fought 4 setter to secure a place in the Semi Finals .The last quarter final was played between the bottom seed Yasir Issadeen and Chris De Saram . Yasir went on to win the match 3-0 despite tough resistance being provided by Chris who fought hard till the end. Samam will be meeting Dilshan while Eranga will be taking on Yasir in the Semi Finals of the Mens Open event.

In the Womens Open category 13 year old Fathoum Issadeen from Holy Family Convent created a huge upset when she beat Kavini Amarasekara in a closely contested 4 setter. Fathoum went to take the match 11/9,11/13,11/9 and 11/8.She will meet the top seed Sharya Guruge in the Semi Finals .At the same time Gayara Jayasuriya and Dulakshi Elikawela qulified for the other Semi Final.

The Boys U-19 event saw Dilshan Gunawardena and Udantha Hewage qualifying for the first semi Final while Nadeesh Herath and Ravindu Laksiri qualified for the other Semi Final. Dilshan had an easy victory over D Wickramasinghe in straigh sets while Udantha took his revenge over Dasith Senanayake, to whom he lost in the last encounter at the recently concluded Junior National Squash Championships, when he beat Dasith 13/11,10/12,11/2 and 12/10.

In the Girls U-19 event Dulakshi Elikawela moved forward into the Finals after overcoming Old School mate Mandakini Gunasekara in straight sets while Mihiliya Methsarani beat bottom seed Gayara Jayasuriya to qualify for the final.

Top seeds in the Boys U-17 category Ravindu Laksiri, and Rashandra Rajarathna moved through to semi finals with easy wins while Buwenaka De Alwis beat 4th Seed Praveen Perera in straight sets to qualify for the semi finals. Bottom seed Udantha Hewage received a walk over from C O Gamage to qualify for the semi final with Rashendra  .In the Boys u-15 event Top and bottom seeds Shamil Wakeel and Ruweesha Jayawardena qualified for the semi finals while Senindu Induwara beat 4th seed Rashendra Rajaratna in a 4 setter to qualify for the semi finals .Viduranga Udantha too moved ahead into the semi finals without much resistance.

In the Girls U-15 event Mihiliya Methsarani will be playing Kavini Amarasekara while Fathoum Issadeen will take on Sanduni  Gunawardena in the Semi Finals.

Shamil Wakeel and Senindu Induwara will be heading for two semi finals each when Shamil will take on Druwinka Perera while the latter takes on Lakshan Navodya in the Boys U-13 semi finals. In the Girls u-13 age group Sanduni Gunawardena,Kasuni Gunawardena,Shehana Vithana and Malshi qualified for the semi final stage.

Sameera Deen ,Nimsari Weerasinghe,Ishni Ranawana and Dewmini Gallage got through to the semi finals in the Girls U-11 age group while Heshan Balasuriya,Pasan Koralage,Methmal Wood and I R Ashwin made to the semi finals in the Boys U-11 age group. The U-09 age group saw Fatheth Asmone,Nevindu Lakman,Dulein De Silva and Sadeesha Rajapaksha qualifying for the semi finals in the Boys division while

Dewmini Gallage  Lisumi Minsadee Andra Halaldeen and Ranuli Wimalaratne qualified for the semi finals in the Girls category.

The Semi Finals will be worked off from the 18th while the plate event of the Mens Open category will be worked off from the 17th.
