Sevens Series tours Wellington

The Much awaited second half of the HSBC World Sevens Series will kick off Next weekend at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. The series has been epic so far with Australia, Dubai and South-Africa having hosted the 1st three rounds of the tournament.

The Fijians showed their resolve in the Gold Coast to beat the defending Champions New Zealand in closely contested final. Two weeks later England showed that they were a force to reckon with as the bright Orange clad Brits stormed past France in Dubai to take the second round. The following week New Zealand bounced back after a week showing in Dubai to beat the Springboks in an enthralling final in Port Elizabeth.

Fiji and New-Zealand go into Wellington tied on 51 points at the top of the table with South Africa and England trailing by just three and four points respectively. France sit in fifth with a total of 39 points and the Aussies take sixth place being a point behind les Blues. Wales and Samoa sit in 7th and 8th places with 38 and 36 points with the Pumas of Argentina and the Scottish making up the top ten.

The Wellington Sevens is to be played on the 3rd and 4th of Feb with a total of 16 teams taking part. New Zealand, Fiji, Wales, England, France, Scotland, Argentina, Samoa, South Africa and Australia are some of the top level teams playing whilst Japan, USA, Tonga, Canada and Kenya along with the debutants Cook Island make up the 16. The All Blacks are coming into the tournament as the defending winners having won in 2011 whilst Fiji won in 2010.

New Zealand’s Tomasi Cama is the top point’s scorer for the season with 126 points. Frank Halai also from New Zealand lies in Second on 90 points Colin Gregor of Scotland has the 3rd highest points with 86 points whilst Osea Kolanisau is one point below him. Englands Mat Turner and French wing Terry Bouhroua make up the top five points scorers.

Frank Halai has dominated the try scorers list with 18 tries whilst Tom Iosefo from Samoa and Mat Turner has run in 15 tries each. James Flemming of Scotland and Owen Williams of Wales have score 14 tries a piece making it into the top 5 try scorers.
