Thushara Samarakoon slams ton as Ananda win 1st innings

Ananda College recorded a first innings win against St. Sylvester’s College today in a match played at Ananda College grounds Colombo.

The home team resuming with their overnight score on 70 runs for the loss of 2 wickets went on to score a formidable 248 runs all out in 68.5 over’s. Deputy skipper Thushara Samarakoon was the star for the Anandians today scoring 100 runs which included 1 six and 11 fours. Samarakoon who has not been in the best of form came good just before their big match encounter which will add a lot of weight to their batting unit.

Overnight batsman Dhanuka Madushan was able to add a further 11 runs to his score getting out on 39 runs. For the visitors a five wicket haul from Nimesh Mendis was the highlight ending with figures of 5 for 83 runs while Sumedha Dissanayake ended with figures of 2/86.

Sylvester’s batting in their second innings were 114 runs for the loss of 6 wickets before the close of play in 45 over’s. Faiz Ahamed who top scored in the first innings with 28 runs made another telling contribution with a knock of 33 while Ruwantha Ekanayake finished with 39 unbeaten runs. Isuru Gunasekera was the pick of the bowlers for Ananda ending with figures of 3/27.
