After dismissing St. Josephs' College for 232 in the first innings St. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia made a bold reply by making 95 runs for the loss of 1 wicket at stumps on day one in their inter school first eleven cricket match played at Mt. Lavinia.
For the Thomians it was an unbroken stand of 80 runs between Opener Asiri Wickramanayake and Sanesh De Mel which put them in a sound position. Asiri was unbeaten on 67 while Sanesh was not out 22 at the close.
Earlier in the day, Joes were all out for 232 with 'man in form' for the Joes, Supeshela Jayathilake top scoring with 44 . He was well supported by Sudeera Samarawickrama with 37.
For the Thomians the bowling honours were taken by Madushan Ravichandrakumar with 4 for 40 whilst Chamod Pathirana and Thilaksha Sumanasiri chipped in with 2 wickets each. It will be an interesting day tomorrow as the two teams battle it out for the 'Gilmour Jayasuriya “challenge trophy that is on offer for the winners of this match.
