Devapathiraja College Ratgama, took on Royal College ‘B’ at the St. Johns College Grounds in Panadura. Devapathiraja College beat a strong St. Peters side to come to this final, while Royal College ‘B’ beat Anuradhapura MV in the semi finals preventing them form a Division I slot and had also recorded 6 wins in their route to the finals.
Devapathiraja College, having already secured a berth in Divison I would look to add the Division II title as a bonus.
Royal College, who won the toss, decided to bat first. However, the batting crumbled due to the good bowling performance shown by the juniors from Devapathiraja. Madara Thalduwa was the only batsmen who managed to tackle the bowling, and went on to score 30 runs for Royal ‘B’. Geeshan Madushanka took 3 wickets for just 16 runs in 6.5 overs to spearhead the Devapthiraja bowling attack and restrict Royal ‘B’ to just 108 runs in 47.5 overs.
Having to chase 108 runs in 50 overs, the Devapathiraja batting was headed by Ishan Chameera who missed out on a half century scoring just 43 runs not out. He was also assisted by the allrounder Geeshan who scored 15 runs not out.
Gothama Ranasinghe was the only Royalist who managed to trouble the Devapathiraja batsmen, taking 2 wickets for 9 runs in 10 overs. This spell included 4 maidens as well. Devapathraja managed to score 109 in just 42 runs, and secure the Division II title beating the Royal College ‘B’ team.
Geeshan Madushanka of Devapathiraja College was awarded the ‘Man of the Finals’ award for his brilliant all round performance.
With this achievement, Devapathiraja College have secured a place in Division I.
