Sri Lanka Schools shines at the opening match

The Women’s matches of the 49th Senior National Basketball Championship kicked off yesterday with Sri Lanka Air Force team taking on the Sri Lanka Schools team at the St. Joseph’s School courts in Nugegoda.

The Air Force team led by noteworthy performance by Prasadini Fonseka managed to take complete control of the first half of the match making use of every single mistake committed by the schools team. Nevertheless the Schools team also accumulated quick points and bridged the gap before half time.

At Half time the scores were 28 – 25 in favour of Air Force

The second half of the match proved to be very exciting as the Schools team minimizing the mistakes committed in the first half put immense pressure on the Forces. Noteworthy performances by Imesha Thathsarani, Sauri Fernando and Natasha Ranasinghe helped them get the edge of the Air Force team. With seconds to go scoring one final basket the schools team held on to a strict defense not letting the Forces get past them at the final stages.

At the Final Whistle the scores read 64-62 in favour of Sri Lanka Schools Team.

In another encounter played at the Sri Lanka Air Force courts the Mercantile team beat the Navy players by 52 points to 48.
