The Papare.com has launched it’s National Campaign for fair play titled “Say NO! to doping Sri Lanka”. The campaign hopes to create greater awareness about doping and banned substances while promoting all Sri Lankans, young and old, male and female, sportsman or not to KEEP it CLEAN! KEEP it REAL!

In the case of the three rugby players Keith, Saliya and Eranga who were tested right after the Asian 5 Nations Rugby tournament this year - all three players claimed that they were unaware of using a banned substance.
“All the players were given a similar brand of supplementary approved by our trainers. Other than that none of us used anything else. We were aware that the supplement we took was not in the lists of WADA but in the 2010 roll the supplement has been included”
However the head of the National Sports Medical Unit at the time Dr. Geethanja Mendis has been quoted as saying “They accepted that they had taken steroids that are banned” in an article by Rugby 365.com on 15th June 2011 titled “Sri Lanka’s Steroid Junkies own up!”.
ThePapare and its readers may find it extremely interesting that the drug for which they were tested positive was Methylhexanamine* which falls under the list of banned substances but does NOT even fall under the category of steroids**.
* Methylhexanamine also spelled methylhexanenamine and known as dimethylamylamine (DMAA), is a dietary supplement, it is a simple aliphatic amine used as a nasal decongestant, as well as treatment for hypertrophied or hyperplasic oral tissues .It is a vasoconstrictor, and can be administered by inhalation to the nasal mucosa to exert its effect.
**A steroid is any of a large class of organic compounds with a characteristic molecular structure containing four rings of carbon atoms (three six-membered and one five). They include many hormones, alkaloids, and vitamins
Dr. Geethanjana and team are no longer in office as Sports Minister Mahindananda Althugamage ordered the complete overhaul of the unit in October, over allegations that staff had a link to banned steroids used by cricketers and national athletes.
