MIES – More than 150 people came from the four corners of the world to take part in the first-ever FIBA Global Staff meeting on Friday-Saturday 1-2 May.

FIBA President Horacio Muratore and FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann hosted the two-day event at the House of Basketball, where they were joined by all the Presidents and Regional Directors of Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania as well as by all staff members worldwide.

Over the course of the two days, all those in attendance took part in team meetings and workshops with their counterparts from the other FIBA offices.

Mr Muratore and Mr Baumann reflected on the major accomplishments achieved in recent years, including the resounding success of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the smooth implementation of FIBA’s new governance. They then set out the major objectives for the 2014-2019 term of office focusing on serving all 215 National Member Federations of FIBA through the two main projects that are the implementation of the new system of competition in 2017 and the continued steadfast growth of the 3×3 discipline.

Addressing all the participants in a presentation on Friday morning, Mr Baumann said: “The proof that the new governance is working lies in the fact that we are all here. With all of you here, ‘ONE FIBA’ has gone from being a project written on paper to becoming a fully-fledged reality.”

For his part, Mr Muratore said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for you all to discover the House of Basketball, to meet your colleagues from around the world and to come together as a team, setting out what can be done to help our 215 National Member Federations grow and fulfil their potential.”

On Saturday, the participants were treated to a visit of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Museum before being given the opportunity to show off their skills in a 3×3 tournament at the House of Basketball, which served as a fitting ending to the historical meeting.
