Royal College captain Helitha Vithanage smashed his third century for the season against Thurstan College while Richmond College trounced the table-toppers, St. Peter’s College on first innings today (24th January in their Singer U19 Division one Cricket Tournament 2016/17.

After winning the toss on a greenish surface St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa opted to bat first.

Royal College vs Thurstan College

Left-handed Helitha Vithanage’s century was the highlight in the rain-affected traditional encounter which ended without a result at Thurstan College grounds.

Vithanage smashed 13 boundaries and a six during his magnificent 203-ball unbeaten knock of 115. He reached his milestone by nudging a delivery to mid-on as Royal College resuming day two on 93 for 3 reached 312 for 8 before declaring the innings. The hosts ended on 136 for 7 at close of play giving major honours to their neighbours.

Richmond College vs St. Peter’s College

Off-spinner Chathura Obeysekara picked up five wickets for St. Peter’s College but the visiting Richmondites made 299 in reply to the Peterite first innings score of 181 for 9 in their group A encounter which concluded in Bambalapitiya today.

Adithya Siriwardena top scored for the lads from Galle with a fine knock of 71 while Kasun Tharaka and Chamikara Hewage chipped in with valuable 40s. Earlier on day one, the hosts batted out the day to reach 181 for 9 at the back of opening batsman Santhush Gunathilake’s 72.

St. Peters – 181/9 declared in 92 overs: Santhush Gunathilake 72, Shivan Perera 21, Avindu Theekshana 5/65, Dhananjaya Lakshan 2/41, Ravishka Wijesiri 2/35.

St. Sebastian’s College vs Wesley College

Off-spinning all-rounder Movin Subasinghe starred for Wesley College with an 11-wicket haul and an unbeaten half-century as they defeated the reigning joint defending champions, St. Sebastian’s on first innings in their traditional fixture at Campbell Park.

Subasinghe grabbed six wickets in the first innings to bundle out the visitors to 153 and followed up with a five wicket haul in the second innings. Right-handed middle order bat, Subasinghe steered the hosts over the winning line with a responsible, unbeaten 61.

Ananda College took major honours in their drawn match against St. Anthony’s College, Katugasthota which concluded today at Ananda Mawatha.

Left-arm spinner Dileepa Jayalath took a 9-wicket match bag for the home team while Dushan Hettige and skipper Kavishka Anjula cracked half-centuries. Mohommad Abser made a match-saving 63 with the bat for the Anthonians.

16 wickets fell on day one as both teams shared honours at Nalanda College grounds.
