Two matches in the Singer Schools’ U19 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 concluded today around the Island.

St. Aloysius College vs Isipathana College

St. Aloysius resumed day two on 140/2, went on to make a formidable 258 all out in 72 overs in the group ‘B’ encounter which was worked off at Colts grounds. Left- hander Ravindu Sanjana, Sandeepa Chamod and Lahiru Dananjaya scored half tons to give a strong 1st innings lead to the visitors.

Coming in to the second essay the hosts Isipathana College needed to bat out the day to save the game for their school. However, left-arm spinner Hareen Buddila picked up his second 5-wicket haul in 12 overs to make 10 for the match as Isipathana College dismissed to a paltry 77 in 33 overs. The lads from Galle recorded their 3rd outright win for the season as they defeated Isipathana by innings and 83 runs.

St. Benedict’s College vs Wesley College

After a dramatic opening day that saw 22 wickets fall, the lads from Kotahena resumed day two on 1 for 2 and dragged their 2nd innings to 176 all out with the help of Shehan Fernando who stroked a classy half-ton in the traditional encounter which concluded in Kotahena.

Chasing 169 in the fourth innings, the lads from Campbell Park completed a stunning 2 wicket victory as the two right-handers Hasith Geesara and Shenal Dangalla put up 94 runs for the 6th wicket to take them home.
