Hameed Al Husseinie College took another step towards booking their semi-final spot in the U19 Division I Football Championship, brushing aside a resource-less Ananda College outfit 4-0, in a group game worked off at P.D. Sirisena Grounds, Maligawaththa.

The Hameedians walked into this tie with a hundred percent record after a hard fought victory (1-0) over a resurgent St. Peter’s College in their previous game and a walkover victory against Royal College.

Hameed Al Husseinie nick late goal to trump St. Peter’s

Hameed Al Husseinie College started off their U19 Division I campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 win over St. Peter’s College

Hameed Al Husseinie approached the first half the best way they know, as they pressed their opponents high up the field with real intensity. Ananda eventually handed the initiative to their opponents as they decided to sit deep in defense, playing into the hands of the Hameedians.

The Hameedian skipper Mohamed Aman was a pivotal cog in midfield, distributing the ball to either side of the park. Mohamed Sahlan and Mohomed Rishan kept constantly probing at the Anandian goal despite being unable to breach their defenses.

However, their persistence eventually paid off in the 14th minute when Mohomed Fazil was threaded through by Mohomed Aman for a smart finish.

The Hameedians wasted little time after as they bagged a second in the 18th minute when make-shift center forward Mohomed Shaheed headed home a neat chip from the right to pile on the misery for the Anandians.

An impressive first half was rounded off by the skipper himself in the 37th minute when he curled a peach of a free kick past the rooted Ananda College custodian from just outside the box.

The Hameedians didn’t take the foot off the gas stepping in to the second half, as they kept piling on the pressure.

Mohomed Aman once again popped up with a goal as he capped a brace in the 42nd minute to seal the points for his team.

The remainder of the half saw the Anandians camped in defense leaving little room for the Hameedian players to exploit. Despite a few close shaves, Ananda College managed to hold on to save themselves from the hands of an absolute clobbering as the game came to a scrappy timid end.

Speaking to ThePapare.com the coach of Hameed Al Husseinie College had this to say,

“We have won two games and we’ve been handed two walk overs, so technically we have 4 wins in the bag and we have secured our spot in the semifinals.”

Talking about the crucial group game against Zahira College Colombo;

“It’s an important game but our primary target is to qualify for the semifinals. But I have asked my players that we win this championship unbeaten which means we will have to win against Zahira College. The momentum we have is good prior to that (Zahira College) game. We still have a matter of Lumbini College before that which we have to take care of before that.”
