Gurukula demolish Anuradhapura MMV; Sokians bag innings honors

Gurukula demolished Anuradhapura MMV by an innings and 28 runs in a group C clash worked off at the Mahara Prison grounds. 

Batting first Anuradhapura MMV were wrapped up for a below par 169 all out despite H.Sachin’s valiant 69. In response Gurukula took control of the game, piling on a commanding 272 all out thanks to Udara Ravindu’s 96.

With a handsome lead at hand, Gurukula wreaked havoc in the Anuradhpura second innings as the latter were knocked over for a mediocre 75 all out handing a well-deserved victory to the hosts.

Winning the toss the visiting Prince of Wales team decided to bat first in their traditional encounter against St. Peter’s College. Avindu Fernando top scored with 51 while Savindu Peiris closely followed with a well-made 49 to carry their team through to 230/9 declared. Mohomed Ameen grabbed yet another impressive 5 wicket haul as he ended with figures of 6/79

In response St. Peter’s ended day one on 22/1.

After winning the toss the boys from DS elected to bat first on their home square. Pasindu Chanaka topped the scoring charts with an elegant 70 as he guided his team to a respectable 306 all out. Shanuka Nikeshala came up trumps for the visitors as he bagged figured of 5/32.

In response the Aloysians held firm to see off the threat to end day one with no casualties.

Dharmasoka College v St.Sylvester’s College

Dharmasoka College won first innings points in a seesaw battle played against St. Sylvester’s College in a group C clash worked off at Gampola.

Batting first, Dharmasoka managed a respectable 209 all out thanks to well compiled half tons by Kaveesh Kumara and Kasun Maduranga. The Sylvester lads were in tatters as they crumbled well short of the Dharmasoka total for 189 despite an unbeaten half century by Shashika Viraj.

Dharmasoka went on to consolidate on their first innings advantage in their second shy at the crease as they added another 229 to their first innings lead. Kasun Madurange lead the way once again as the Sokians ended day 2 with first innings honors.
