Godamanne, Shamal and Muttiah progress forward at SAG

Sri Lanka earned their way to the quarterfinals of the South Asian Games draw in the categories of Mixed Doubles and Men’s Singles with the efforts of Harshana Godamanne, Amritha Muttiah and Shamal Dissanayaka.

The mixed doubles duo Godamanne and Muttiah had a tough fight against Pakistan, who were represented by top seeded players Ahmed Khan and Sara Mehboob. Having lost the first set to the Pakistani duo, the Lankans fought back in the second set to win it 6-4. As the final set went on to break points, Sri Lanka emerged victorious winning the set 10-7

Final Result: 2-6,6-4,10-7 to Sri Lanka

Unfortunately, the Medira Samarasinghe-Dinesh Kanthan duo could not progress forward past the second round in the mixed doubles category as they lost out to the Pakistani pair Aisam Ul Haq Qureishi and Ushna Suhail. The win was a clean run for the Pakistan side, the scores reading 6-4, 6-4.

Final Result: 6-4, 6-4 to Pakistan

Meanwhile Godamanne and Dissanayaka had it easy against their Nepalese opponents in the Men’s Doubles in the second round. It was an easy win for the Lankans who won both sets 6-1.

Final Result: 6-1, 6-1 to Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s seeded player Dissanayaka registered a round 2 win against Anwar Hossain of Bangladesh to move forward. Hossain unfortunately did not get the opportunity of scoring a single point against Dissanayaka who whitewashed his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Final Result: 6-0, 6-0 to Sri Lanka
