Will Galle CC manage to replicate the form they showed in 2015/16 and qualify for the super eight stage of this season’s SLC Premier tournament?

Galle CC defined all odds and topped group B, finishing fourth in the super eight stage of the SLC Premier tournament 2015/16.

Bit of history

Established in the year 1876, Galle CC was made to work hard for their Premier status. The most superior team from the South, Galle CC has the privilege of calling the Galle International Stadium their home ground.

Key Players

Captain Sajeewa Weerakoon is a man with tons of experience under his belt. Weerakoon has represented the likes of BRC, Tamil Union and Colts in the past. The left arm orthodox bowler has more than 780 first class wickets to his name.

All-rounder Shalika Karunanayake will be another key man for the Galle out-fit. Having accumulated 4156 first class runs and 114 first class wickets, Karunanayake will look to his past performances as inspiration to do well this time around as well.

Middle order batsman Dilhan Cooray will be a vital part of the Galle batting line-up. He has scored 2216 first class runs thus far and will be seeking to better his record as the season goes on.

New boys

Sri Lankan Under 19 player Vishva Chathuranga will be playing his debut season for Galle and will be aiming to make a name for himself in the club circuit. Navindu Nirmal from St. Aloysius’ College, playing his 2nd season for Galle, is the first choice wicketkeeper. Nirmal has close to 500 runs in first class cricket and will be counting on replicating his school heroics to make a smooth transition to domestic cricket. Minhaj Jaleel, another rookie with just 4 first class matches to his name, will be aiming to better his record this season.

Coaching staff

Sajeewa Weerakoon, will be the Player/Coach of the Galle CC outfit this season. He will be assisted by Dinuka Perera. Hasitha Rajapksha will be the manager of the Galle CC team.
