The young promising team from the Northern Province St. Johns College, Jaffna recorded a first inning win over St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa today in the Singer Schools U13 Division I Cricket Tournament played at Joseph Vaz Grounds today.

Winning the toss the home team invited the visitors from Jaffna to bat first and bowled them out for 118 runs in 33.1 overs. Adith Jeroshan was the highest scorer by scoring 26 runs not out while Tharindu Heshan and Dasun Wijitha shared 3 wickets each by taking 3 for 29 and 3 for 33 respectively. Seth Ranthisa took 2 wickets for 23 runs.

The Juniors from Jaffna outperformed the home team boys by bowling them out for just 72 runs in 26.4 overs. Edenezer Jazier demolished the Joseph Vaz batting line up by grabbing 7 wickets for 23 runs and M Randiyo took 2 wickets for 8 runs. Tharindu Heshan scored 25 runs which was the top score for Joseph Vaz juniors.

Batting their second inning St. Johns College, Jaffna was struggling before the umpires called it off for the day when they managed to score 51 runs for the loss of 8 wickets completing 21.5 overs. Seth Ranthisa grabbed 5 wickets for just 4 runs while Dasun Wijitha took 3 wickets for 19 runs.

Nalanda College, Colombo vs Basilica College, Ragama

A decent batting performance by Nalanda College, Colombo Juniors made it an easy first inning win over Basilica College, Ragama today in the Singer Schools U13 Division I Cricket Tournament played at Basilica Grounds today.

The Juniors from Ragama won the toss and opted to field first. Nalanda added 170 runs to the score board with the loss of 8 wickets in 38.3 overs when they decided to declare their first inning. Yasiru Samarakoon scored a half century ending up with 55 runs while Sadev Samarasinghe scored 48 runs just short of another half century. Luvana Dananjaya took 2 wickets for 36 runs, Chenuka Randula grabbed 2 wickets for 39 runs and Lakshan Dian chipped in with 2 more wickets for 43 runs.

The home team juniors were well short of the target when they were bowled out for 98 runs in 38.5 overs. Thenuga Perera took 3 wickets for 31 runs while Yasiru Samarakoon took 2 wickets for 9 runs.

Batting their second inning Nalanda College scored 92 runs losing only 3 wickets in 15 overs at the end of the day’s play. Charaka Gunethilka scored 39 runs and Yasiru Samarakoon scored 38 runs not out.

A junior battle in down south today got underway between St. Aloysius College, Galle and St. Servatius College, Matara in the Singer Schools U13 Division I Cricket Tournament at Square Ground Matara.

The home team juniors from Matara won the toss and chose to field first and bowled out the St. Aloysius College boys for 118 runs completing 60.2 overs. Kawmina Amakara’s 38 runs was the highest for the juniors from Galle. Shanuka Damindu was the pick of the bowlers when he managed to take 4 wickets for 14 runs while Savindu Sandeep grabbed 3 wickets for 10 runs and Tharun Devinda took 2 wickets for 26 runs.

Chasing the target St. Servatius juniors scored 142 runs for the loss of 8 wickets completing 50 overs at the end of the day’s play. Dinura Shanushka scored 32 runs while Navod Phansara and Savindu Sandeep scored 29 & 23 respectively. Hasindu Dilmin picked 4 wickets for 30 runs.

The match ended up draw with the first inning points to St. Servatius College, Matara.
