Dinesh Chandimal to miss Galle Test

Dinesh Chandimal, the newly appointed Sri Lanka Test captain, will miss the 1st Test against India which begin on the 26th of July. The 27-year-old was admitted to hospital with suspected pneumonia on Friday July 21st.

In Chandimal’s absence, left arm spinner Rangana Herath will lead the side for the 1st Test. Chandimal led Sri Lanka to a memorable record win over Zimbabwe in the one-off Test in his 1st game in charge. The responsibility was bestowed on him after Angelo Matthews decided to step down. the management confirmed that they are trying to get Chandimal fit for the 2nd Test.

Skipper Chandimal did not attend yesterday’s press conference to announce the tour as he was down with fever.

India start their tour with the first Test in Galle before heading to Colombo for the second Test. The third Test will be played in Pallekele and the series will be followed by five ODIs and a one-off T20I.
