Right-handed batsman Dilanka Maduranga slammed a stunning century for Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa in their ‘Singer Trophy’ U19 division 1 cricket encounter against S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia today at STC grounds.

At stumps on day one, the visitors after posting a mammoth first-innings score of 305 for 8 declared have the upper hand over the home team who are struggling on 49 for 3.

Skipper Vishva Chathuranga won the toss and elected to bat first on a placid surface. Middle-order batsman Maduranga clobbered 14 fours and 9 sixes during his magnificent 93-ball 143. He was involved in a 94-run stand for the 4th wicket with Sanoj Dharshika who went onto make 40.

Maduranga and last year’s captain Thilan Nimesh added 104 runs for the 5th wicket. Nimesh made an entertaining 78 and his dismissal prompted coach Kushan Jayawickrama to declare the innings. Tehan Schaffter and left-arm spinners, Pavith Rathnayake and Dellon Peiris picked up 2 wickets apiece for the hosts.

In the final session, fast-bowler Avindu Fernando took 2 wickets to rattle the Thomians but the in-form Ishen Perera stayed unbeaten on 26.

Prince of Wales’ College  – 305/8 declared in 65 overs: Dilanka Maduranga 143, Thilan Nimesh 78, Sanoj Dharshika 40, Tehan Schafter 2/34, Pavith Rathnayake 2/78, Dellon Peiris 2/55.

S. Thomas’ College  – 49/3 in 26 overs: Ishen Perera 26*, Avindu Fernando 2/15.


Trinity College vs D.S Senanayake College

DS Senanayake College has put themselves on the driving seat at stumps on day one in their U19 traditional fixture against Trinity College at Bloomfield grounds.

After reaching a substantial first innings score of 208, the home team restricted the Kings of Kandy to 75 for 5. Dasun Demasha made a solid 62 for the Dons while skipper Shanmuganathan Shanogeeth and his left-arm spin-twin Vimukthi Nethmal bagged three wickets apiece for the visitors. The Trinitians have lost five of their key batsmen but Vice-captain Hasitha Boyagoda remained unbeaten on 18.

DS Senanayake College – 208 all out in 63 overs: Dasun Demasha 62, Shehzaad Ameen 39, Methsith Jayamantha 34, Shanmuganathan Sanogeeth 3/32, Vimukthi Nethmal 3/35, Mohomad Sheeb 2/24.

Trinity College  – 75/5 in 32 overs: Kalana De Soysa 23, Hasitha Boyagoda 18*, Pasindu Adithya 2/26.


Anuradhapura Central College vs St. Sylvester’s College

Manjitha Rajapaksha’s excellent hundred helped St. Sylvester’s College take command in their ‘Singer Trophy’ U19 division 1 group C match against Anuradhapura Central College at Peradeniya Campus grounds.

Rajapaksha’s unbeaten 111 and Avindu Herath’ fluent 94 helped the home team to post a substantial 284 for 7 before declaring their innings. In reply, the boys from Anuradhapura were bowled out for a mere 69. Thusith De Zoysa and skipper Manuja Perera shared 7 wickets amongst them.

St. Sylvester’s College  – 284/7 declared in 65 overs: Manjith Rajapaksha 111*, Avindu Herath 94, Isuru Anurudda 3/49, Maduranga Chanduwarathne 2/94

Anuradhapura Central College  – 69 all out in 18.2 overs: T Dilshan 29*, Thusith De Zoysa 4/26, Manuja Perera 3/15.


President’s College vs Maris Stella College

Off-spinner Sanka Poorna and opening batsman Dushan Guruge helped Maris Stella College take control in their ‘Singer Trophy’ under 19 division 1 group D encounter against President’s College, Kotte at Surrey Village grounds in Maggona.

Poorna’s five-wicket haul restricted the lads from Kotte to 205 despite Hiruna Dilshan slamming a superb 57. In reply, the visitors from Negombo reached 122 for 2 at close with Guruge unbeaten on 74.

President College – 205 all out in 61.4 overs: Hiruna Dilshan 57, Malaka De Silva 46, Shalaka Bandara 31, Sanka Poorna 5/54, Lasith Crosspulle 2/21.
