2019 sees new faces enter the senior team while some familiar faces are missing from the team. Nevertheless, Sri Lanka’s own hero on the court, Harshana ‘Godda’ Godamanna will once again wear the blue and yellow for Sri Lanka.

Last year, Sri Lanka was relegated to Group III after two losses at home in the Group II playoffs, against Thailand and Indonesia. This year the Lions join host nation Singapore, Iran, Kuwait, Malaysia, Qatar, Syria and Vietnam for the Group III playoffs, later this month.

Recipient of the Davis Cup Commitment Award, Harshana Godamanna will be the team’s front runner for the 17th occasion. Joining him in the team once again is another returning veteran, Dineshkanthan Thangarajah.

The 4-time National champion and respected coach, Thangarajah retired for a brief period of time from playing, but made a strong come back in 2017 with wins in Grade 1 local tournaments.

Godamanna and Thangarajah together will pack the experience and skill in the team while they are joined by youngsters Dumindu Dilum and debutant Savit Weerasinghe. While Dilum was a part of the 5-member team last year, he didn’t get any playing time on court and this year might be his chance to make an entrance.

2018 Boys U18 National champion Savit Weerasinghe makes the senior national team for the first time and will look at clocking some time on court.
