Antonio Conte has been sacked by Chelsea FC after two fairly successful seasons winning silverware in both his seasons in charge.

Manchester City sign Mahrez from Leicester

Manchester City have broken their club record to sign…

Antonio Conte took over the role of Head Coach/manager at Chelsea FC in 2016 after managing Italy to the quarter-finals of the Euro 2016. He had a revolutionary first season in charge, dominantly winning the Premier League and making it to the final of the FA Cup.

Conte was also credited to triggering a new era in the Premier League with his 3 at the back formation that worked wonders in his first season at Chelsea.

His second season unfortunately was not as successful, with Chelsea slumbering to a 5th place finish, missing out on the Champions League for the second time in 3 years, though Chelsea did go on to winning the FA Cup.

However, from the beginning of Conte’s second season in charge speculation was rife about his imminent sacking, which got even more fueled when he fell out publicly with the Chelsea board, publicly criticizing their transfer policies during press conferences.

Juventus sign Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has joined Juventus…

It was also heavily rumored he had fallen out of favor with many star players including the likes of David Luiz and Willian.

Sky Sports Italia now report that Conte has been officially sacked by Chelsea, and the heavily rumored replacement, Maurizio Sarri will be officially announced soon.

Sarri led Napoli to a second place finish behind Juventus last season in the Serie A, and is widely regarded for his attacking style of football.

History however proves Antonio Conte is the better manager, with Conte having won 7 trophies so far as a manager, with Sarri yet to win at least one.

An official statement by Chelsea FC on 13th July read;

During Antonio’s time at the club, we won our sixth league title and eighth FA Cup. In the title winning season, the club set a then-record 30 wins in a 38-game Premier League season, as well as a club-record 13 consecutive league victories.

We wish Antonio every success in his future career.
