Rathnayaka saves Navy Sea Hawks

Veteran striker R.M.J.D. Rathnayake scored a hat trick and assisted another as he helped Navy Sea Hawks save their blushes…

Colombo FC came in to the game as favorites and  lived up to expectation as they completely dominated proceedings from the get go.

Early passage of play saw the front three of Mohamed Aakpib, Mohamed Fazal and Bodric Dimithri combining well along with Mohamed Rifnas in the midfield for Colombo FC.

The opportunity to score came in as early as the second minute when Mohamed Fazal sent in a through ball to Niran Kanishka which got blocked by the Super Sun defender.

Another long ball by Mohamed Rifnas found Kanishka in the right wing and the cross was met by Mohamed Aakib who missed the opportunity to score from close range.

Goal scoring opportunities kept on coming Colombo FC’s way only to be scuffed at will by the front three. The match could have been put to bed in the first fifteen minutes as Super Sun SC were trying hard to hold on.

The game started to even out as Super Sun got a foot in with Colombo missing a few, playing in the midfield and trying to mount attacks of their own. B. Shiwanka sent in a great cross towards the Colombo goal which tested Mohamed Imran.

Finally the breakthrough came from a set piece as an unnecessary free kick conceded by Super Sun was expertly converted by Bodric Dimithri 42minutes in to the game. The shot was a left foot curler to the right top corner.

Half Time – Colombo FC 1 – 0 Super Sun SC

The second half was a bang for Super Sun as Colombo FC ran riot from the start off.  In the 50th minute Niran Kanishka sent in a sumptuous ball through to the path of Bodric Dimithri whose first touch was sublime to beat the goal keeper.

Just a minute later Mohamed Aakib got the goal he was looking for from an assist from Dimithri as the Super Sun defense was caught trying to trap offside.

Again a minute later Bodric turned provider for Mohamed Fazal to help himself with a header to make the score 4-0.

Making a substitution of goalkeepers for Super Sun did not change much as immediately after Bodric got his hat-trick with a left foot thunder bolt which went through the goal keeper.

At an hour gone the score was 5-0 up and Colombo FC made several changes and substitute Safran Sattar almost immediately provided the sixth with a lob from midfield to beat goalkeeper Mohamed Harfan who incidentally kicked a goal kick straight at Safran.

Minutes later Safran was brought down inside the box by goalkeeper Harfan giving Mohamed Rifnas the opportunity to score from the spot which he did expertly.

The goal of the match was kept for the last as Mohamed Fazal and Mohamed Rifnas played one touch passes and the latter finished from outside with a sublime one touch finish.

A complete dominant performance in the second half was no match for the inexperienced Super Sun outfit as Colombo FC played calmly till the last minutes of the game.
