Colombo FC dropped further 2 points after a lackluster performance where they drew 1-1 against Renown SC in the Dialog Champions League 2018 match week 15 fixture played at Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo.

Colombo FC who kicked off, had dropped 2 points on their previous visit to the Stadium which dented their title defence slightly. Renown however who are out of the title race had the chance to hamper Colombo’s aspirations further.

Bodric Dimitri got a couple of shots away without much conviction as he found space inside the Renown penalty box. Colombo FC made an early substitution as Siraj Jein limped off with a hamstring strain and Ahmed Shazny came in.

Coach Mohamed Amanulla then had to make a change of his own as Mohamed Mujeeb replaced the injured Dilan Madushanka.

Momas Yapo got Rasik Rishad to work with a long-range effort which was on target as Colombo kept the pressure on the Renown defence. The lead almost came through Yapo who lashed out a shot from the resulting corner which went inches away from the upright..

Mohamed Aakib was on the end of a clearance punch from Rasik Rishad after Zarwan Johar was on target with a free kick. Aakib was not able to keep his shot low and on target as Renown lived dangerously.

Both teams cancelled out each other in the midfield. As half time approached goal mouth action was few and far between. Both coaches looked unhappy as the teams went into the break.

Half Time – Renown SC 0 – 0 Colombo FC

The second half started with Colombo FC going on the attack immediately and looking to take the game to Renown SC.

The first clear opportunity in the second half fell to Mohamed Fazal when he brilliantly controlled a long ball inside the Renown box. Just before he pulled the trigger he was well blocked by Hakeem Kamil as keeper Rishad collected.

Bodric Dimitri took continuous corner kicks which were cleared away by Rishad as the visitors tried hard to beat the Renown blockage in front of the goal.

Against the run of play Ibrahim Jimoh found himself with acres of space inside the Colombo box. A simple pass to the far post was needed, however he hit high and wide as he went for power.

Ibrahim Jimoh then made a crucial error in clearing the ball which he won in his own penalty area from a corner. The ball fell to the waiting foot of Bodric Dimitri who slammed home the opener to give Colombo the deserving lead.

Buddika Perera came close to increase the lead for Colombo with a darting run and cut inside the box. His shot went agonizingly away from the left upright.

Mohamed Aakib too was close immediately after to increase the lead with his header swishing past the crossbar as Ibrahim Jimoh got Kaveesh Fernando to save on the other side of the field to keep his team in the lead.

Against all odds Dilip Peiris equalized for the hosts with minutes remaining on the clock to level the game. Kaveesh Fernando making the fatal error of dropping the ball at the feet of Peiris following a diving take from a cross.
