Here’s round of the the 3rd day’s play of the Super 8 matches and the plate matches which concluded today in the SLC Tier A Premier League

Chilaw Marians vs Army SC

Malinda Pushpakumara’s five wicket haul helped Chilaw steal the victory against Army by 15 runs. Army were given a target of 156 runs to get in their second innings. They were sitting comfortably at 140 for 7 but their last three wickets fell for no runs. Pushpakumara’s figures stood at 5 for 59. For Army, there were few cameos but it was Janith Silva showed the toughest resistance against Pushpakumara and the rest. 

Early on, Chilaw Marians posted 190 runs all out for their first innings. In reply the soldiers were cleaned up for just 183 runs. Army came back strongly with the ball in the second innings by restricting Chilaw cheaply for 148 runs.

SSC vs Colts 

Sinhalese Sports Club registered a comprehensive victory by 209 runs in their match against Colts CC at Katunayake. Colts were given a mammoth target of 387 runs to get in their second innings. They started the chase in a dismal fashion as they lost their first wicket in the first over.

Sadeera Samarawickrama was yet again dominant up the order but his knock was shortened for a brisk 35. There wasn’t much support for him from the top order but  Ishan Jayarathne came in at No 10 and scored a blistering innings of 85 runs off just 40 balls. His innings included 7 boundaries and 7 maximums and was the last man to fall for Colts as they were cleaned up for 177 runs. Sachithra Senanayake was the pick of the bowlers 4 for 53 while Vimukthi Perera took 3 for 36. 

Early on, SSC made 293 runs for their first innings. In reply, Colts folded for just 100 runs. SSC were made to fight hard in their second and they could only make 193 runs all out.

Tamil Union vs CCC

Tamil Union were trailing by 57 runs in their second innings at stumps on day two against CCC. Tamil Union resumed the third day’s play with 406 runs on board with 2 wickets in hand. They managed to add 91 runs more for those two wickets which gave them a lead of 120 runs. In reply on stumps on day 3, Tamil Union were 63 for 2 in their second innings. 

Early on, Tamil Union posted 377 runs for their first innings.

NCC vs Ragama CC

Ragama CC require another 191 runs to win with 6 wickets in hand at stumps on day 3 at CCC. Ragama were given a target of 352 runs to get in their second innings. They lost their skipper early on but a steady 122 run partnership between two Peterites Lahiru Milantha and Janith Liyanage took them to a commanding position. Lahiru wasn’t amongst the runs in the last few matches but he scored a fighting knock of 59 runs. Towards the latter part of the day, they lost three quick wickets but Janith held on and was unbeaten on 56 at stumps. 

NCC resumed play on the 3rd day 209 for 9 and they could only add 4 runs for their last wicket. 

Early on, NCC scored 265 runs for their first innings. In reply, Ragama were cleaned up for 127 runs.

Badureliya vs Moors 

This clash ended in a tame draw at BRC grounds. Badureliya resumed play with 91 for 4 on board. Sahan Wijerathne and Nadeera Nawela put on a 152 run stand for the 5th wicket. Nadeera was dismissed for a well made 82 while Sahan went on to score his second century of the match. The rest of the batters failed to score and they finally declared their innings at 259 for 8 in. Moors had about 20 overs to survive and when bad light stopped play, they were 76 for 4. 

Early on, Badureliya made 300 runs for their first innings and in reply Moors were bundled out for 214 runs.

Bloomfield vs BRC

Strong batting performances by both sides saw this match ending in a draw at Panagoda. BRC resumed play with 236 for 6. Chanaka Wijesinghe scored a brilliant century for BRC down the order. His knock of 130 came off 246 deliveries. He remained unbeaten till the end and their total stood at 391 for 9 at stumps. 

Early on, Bloomfield posted 317 for their first innings.

Galle vs Saracens 

The last of the three plate matches also ended in a draw between Galle and Saracens at Bloomfield Grounds. Galle resumed play with 15 for no loss. Nilushan Nonis scored an unbeaten century at the top and he found good support from Shalika Karunanayake who scored 72 runs off 55 balls. They decided to declare their innings at 259 for 5. In reply at stumps, Saracens were 84 for 2 in their second innings.

Early on, Galle posted 301 for their first innings. Saracens in reply made 315.
