Prince of Wales’ and Thurstan seal their spots in quarter-finals

Prince of Wales’ College and Thurstan College sealed their spots in the quarter finals of the Singer U19 Division I Limited Overs Tournament, after dominating performances with the bat. 

Thurstan College vs DS Senanayake College

Charana Nanayakkara’s blistering 92 helped Thurstan College beat DSS by 169 runs according to the Parabola Method at Thurstan Grounds. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first. Thurstan batsmen dominated from the word go but the star of the match was none other than Charana Nanayakkara his knock of 92 made the difference in the game. Imesh Viranga contributed with an unbeaten 67 while Yeshan Wickramarachchi scored 56 runs. Thurstan posted a mammoth 293 for 4 in their lot of 50 overs.

The visitors had a stiff task ahead of them and it only got worse when rain delayed play and they got a revisedtarget of 285 runs to get from just 42 overs. DSS could never get in the game as the Thurstan bowlers kept on chipping away with the wickets. Nipun Lakshan was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 3 as the visitors crumbled for just 116 runs. Thurstan stamping their authority and taking their rightful spot in the quarter final.

St. Peter’s College vs Prince of Wales

POW won a thriller against St. Peter’s at Bambalapitiya to seal their spot in the top 8. Lakshina Rodrigo won the toss and elected to bat first. The home side was restricted to 35 for 3 in 11.1 overs. Lakshina Rodrigo and Shalith Fernando put up a 127 runs stand for the 4th wicket.

Shalith scored 46 while Skipper Lakshina scored an 89 ball 87 with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Ranmith Jayasena made a valuable contribution of 52 off just 35 balls which guided St. Peter’s to 239 for 9 in 50 overs.

Rain intervened in the second half of the match the target was revised to 204 runs to get off 36 overs. Sri Lanka U19 cap Vishwa Chathuranga blasted a 27 ball 57 with 3 sixes and 5 boundaries to put the visitors in the driving seat. Peterites came back into the game with 3 quick wickets but Dilanka Maduranga and Avindu Fernando added 88 runs for the 4th wicket and got them closer to the target.

Dilanka top scored with 57 runs while Avindu scored a valuable 33. POW got over the line in the 31st over with 4 wickets in hand to secure their spot in the top 8.
