Sri Lanka U19 Captain and Sri Lanka A representative Richmondite, Charith Asalanka was adjudged the Singer Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year at the glittering Singer U19 Schools’ Cricket Awards 2016 held at the Museaus College auditorium yesterday.
This is the second consecutive time where Asalanka was named the ‘Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year’. He was not present to receive the award due to national duty in Dambulla where he is playing the second unofficial Test match between Sri Lanka A and West Indies.
Sri Lanka U19 player, Sammu Ashan of Ananda College was named the runner-up schoolboy cricketer of the year.

Sanjula Abeywickrama of Isipathana College won the Best Batsman award while Ramesh Nimantha of St. Servatius’ College, Matara bagged the Best Batsman – runner up award.
Thulanjana Fernando of St. Joseph Vaz College was named the Best Bowler for the 2015/16 season while Lasith Embuldeniya of Royal College won the Best Bowler – runner-up award.
Pramod Maduwantha of Isipathana College and Dileepa Akash of De Mazenod College bagged the Best All-rounder winner and runner-up awards respectively. Asitha Gihan of St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa was crowned as the Best Fielder while Tiran Dhanapala of Royal College won the Best Fielder – runner-up award.
St. Peter’s College, Bambalapitiya and St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa who were declared joint winners of the U19 Division I League Tournament 2015/16 shared the top award in the team awards section.
Isipathana College, Richmond College and Trinity College were also crowned as Best Team in their respective provinces, Western, Southern and Central. Devapathiraja College, Rathgama won the prestigious Best Upcoming Team award.
CEO of Singer Sri Lanka, PLC Asoka Peiris was the chief guest of the awards ceremony while former ICC match referee and Sri Lanka player, Roshan Mahanama was the Guest of Honour.
