Former Sri Lanka skipper and axed wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Chandimal has been signed up to play the Global T20 League in Canada.

Chandimal will make his debut for Montreal Tigers as a replacement for wicket-keeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella, who have been named in Sri Lanka’s squad for their home series against Bangladesh.

Apart from Dickwella, Thisara Perera and Isuru Udana were also picked up by the Montreal Tigers earlier this year but all three of them have been named in the 22-member preliminary ODI squad for Sri Lanka.

Chandimal who has led Sri Lanka in all three formats, was overlooked for the recently-concluded ICC Cricket World Cup. In T20Is, he has a strike-rate of 104.43 after 54 games, while in domestic T20 cricket, the 29-year old has a strike-rate of 117.23 and an average of 28.58 in 120 matches.

According to reliable sources, Chandimal had put his name forward to make his foreign T20 league debut in a bid to make a comeback to the national team.
