Chanaka Ruwansiri’s ton keeps Lankan Cricket Club high on day one

Four matches in the SLC Premier League Tier ‘B’ Tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island.  

Lankan Cricket Club vs Air Force Sports Club

Right hand batsman Chanaka Ruwansiri’s ton guided Lankan Cricket Club to a strong start to their clash against Air Force Sports Club which commenced today at Surrey Village, Maggona. Skipper of Air Force won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Lankan Cricket Club finished the first day strongly as they posted 349 all out for the first innings. Chanaka Ruwansiri starred with the bat as he scored 120 runs not out for Lankans. Maduranga Soyza (74) and Lakshan Rodrigo (53) chipped in with half tons. Lakshan Fernando and Buddhika Sandaruwan picked up 3 wickets each for Air Force. At stumps on day one, Air Force were 8 for none in 1.1 overs. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Navy Sports Club vs Police Sports Club

Tier B match between Navy Sports Club and Police Sports Club commenced today at De Soysa Grounds, Moratuwa. Navy Sports Club won the toss and decided to bat first but rain interruptions did not allow them to bat long on the first day. Only 33 overs were bowled as umpires called stumps on day one. At stumps, Navy was 77 runs for 4 wickets. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

Panadura Sports Club vs Kalutara Town Club

Kashif Naveed’s brisk half century helped Panadura Sports Club get a solid start to their first innings against familiar rivals Kalutara Town Club. Skipper of Panadura Sports Club had no hesitation to bat first after winning the toss at Bandaragama Public Grounds. They finished day one with 161 runs for 4 wickets in 65.2 overs. Negombo Cricket Club vs Galle Cricket Club

Another Tier B match got interrupted by rain as the clash between Negombo Cricket Club and Galle Cricket Club was conducted only for 30.1 overs on day one. Galle skipper won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first in their own backyard. However, Negombo Cricket Club got off to a good start as they finished day one with 97 runs for 1 wicket. Srihan Anuruddhika remained unbeaten at 38 runs. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
