Former Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has been appointed as fast bowling coach for Sri Lanka’s home series against India, replacing Champaka Ramanayake, who has reportedly resigned to take up a coaching role in Bangladesh.

Former fast bowler Chaminda Vaas joined SLC as a specialist bowling consultant in August of last year. Part of Vaas’ role was to work with cricketers at the Under 19, the Development Squad and A team levels and to also help in the talent identification areas. Vaas had functioned as the national bowling coach from early 2013 – April 2015.

Vaas is Sri Lanka’s most successful fast bowler having picked up 355 wickets in 111 Tests and 400 wickets in 322 ODIs. His international tally for Sri Lanka is second only to that of Muttiah Muralitharan.

Former right-arm seamer Champaka Ramanayake was first appointed national fast bowling coach in 2001 and has been in the national set up since then. The 52-year-old played 18 Tests and 62 One-Day Internationals for Sri Lanka after making his debut in 1987.

SLC also brought in former South African seamer Allan Donald as a bowling consultant for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

Sri Lanka is set to take on India in a full tour beginning next Wednesday (26th) with the 1st Test in Galle.
