I was never a ruggerite, the only bit of Rugby I’ve played has been either during the interval break with my friends or as a way to pass time and bond as a team when practices or matches were called off due to rain.
The 70th Bradby shield encounter between Royal College, Colombo and Trinity College, Kandy is to be held on the 9th and 23rd of May 2015. Along with the action packed thriller of a game expected, the Royal College Union is to organize the “Bradby Fiesta” carnival to be held on the 23rd of May at eh Bloomfield grounds.

The year of 2009 was personally a memorable year for me because it was my Aiyyahs last year of Royal rugby. *sob sob* But we were crazy good that year.
The Cycle Parade itself is a time old tradition started by the Royalists somewhere in the beginning of the last Century, Mr.Viji Weerasinghe confirms that the Cycle Parade was well established when he was in School way back in 1939.

Daylight seemed to be just seeping through the sulky clouds to the hill capital. Amidst the heavy Saturday traffic building up on a normal weekend routine, an array of vehicles seemed to be stationed in front of the Trinity College main enclosure equipping them with the colors of red, gold and blue.
Imagine a war, a clash of titans. A battle that is renewed every year. A battle where 30 men clash, the pride and history of decades on their shoulders. Imagine 160 minutes of pure adrenaline, where dreams are made and broken.
In the 1970’s we witnessed some of the best schoolboy Rugby games in Sri Lanka. Royal, Trinity, S Thomas Mt Lavinia, St Peters, Isipathana, St Anthony’s produced many great teams and players, who played the game with much passion in their School colors and produced a fine brand of Rugby, still remembered and glowingly referred to by many who witnessed these games.
It’s that time of the year again where we sit on the edge of a seat at the Reid Avenue or at Pallekale and scream our hearts out for the school of our fathers or the best school of all.
