The Colombo Hockey Association Knockout Tournament 2017/2018 concluded recently in gala fashion. BRC, KDU and Colombo Colts took home championship glory in the A Division Men’s, B Division Men’s and Women’s Cup respectively.

BRC vs CH & FC – Men’s ‘A’ Div | Pioneer Cup Final

In the ‘A’ Division Men’s knockout final BRC ‘A’ beat CH & FC ‘A’ on a penalty shoot-out after the scores were even at 1 goal apiece.

CH & FC ‘A’ opened the scoring in the 45th minute of the game from the stick of Upul Fernando and Gihan Peiris gave BRC ‘A’ the equalizer with a well netted goal a few minutes to the end of play.

With the scores level at the final whistle, the game had to be decided on penalties and BRC ‘A’ emerged winners by 5 goals to 3 in the resulting shootout.

KDU vs Old Royalists – Men’s ‘B’ Div | Bacon Cup Final

The Old Royalists edged out the Old Zahirians by 1 – 0 in an evenly contested game and entered the final against the Kothalawala Defence University. Shahid Kuthubdeen made no mistake to score from a short corner in the 50th minute to take them through to the final.

The Kothalawala boys were too much for the Royalists to handle and after a grueling encounter, finished on top 3 goals to 2.

KDU went into a 2-0 lead at half time, with goals from A.Herath and N.Kalinga. Old Royalist opened the scoring where Shahid Kuthubdeen netted from a penalty stroke in the 2nd half. The third goal for KDU was scored by R.Dharmaratne in the 37th minute while S.Subasinghe scored the second goal for the Old Royalist in the 51st minute.

Colombo Colts vs Malay Club – Women’s Cup Final

Colombo Colts Ladies beat Moratuwa University by a solitary goal in the semifinal to advance to the grand finale against Malay Club.

Colombo Colts emerged Champs by beating Malay Club by 2 goals to nil at the 2017/2018 knock out final. The winning goal for the Colombo Colts Ladies came from the stick of Shamindri Perera in the 34th minute.

Chanali Keethima netted the first goal in the 21st minute and at half time the winners led 1-0. The second came from the stick of Dilini Subasinghe to give Colombo Colts a 2-0 victory.
