U15 Cricket Final Day 1

The Nalandian bowlers dominated day 1 of the Singer U-15 division one cricket tournament final as their collective performance restricted St. Sebastian’s to a below-par 172.

St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa won the toss and elected to bat first in the much anticipated final worked off today at Thurstan College grounds. The wicket was not the best to bat on and the Nalandian bowlers made it tougher for the Sebastianites with some exceptional bowling.

The young Nalandians’ ability to stick with excellent lines and lengths reaped rich rewards as none of the Sebastianite batsmen could get going except for Dunith Wellage and Janushka Perera. Even Dunith and Janushka couldn’t convert their starts as they were dismissed for 31 and 21 respectively.

The Moratuwa lads were also guilty of being too defensive as they scored at a rate of less than two runs per over. They batted for almost 88 overs before being bundled out for 172. Jayod Kaldera was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3 wickets 25 runs while Thamindu Kamalasuriya and Raveen de Silva picked 2 wickets each.

Nalanda College came into bat with only 3 overs remaining and they were able to see through the day without any damage as they ended up at 4 for no wicket.
