ATP Pro to coach in Sri Lanka

Former ATP Pro Harsh Mankad of India will make a visit to Sri Lanka on the 12th of May to conduct a coaching camp.

The initiative is a first of its kind and has been organized by former Davis Cup representative and ITF Level II coach, Renouk Wijemanna. The camp will run its course over five days of training with an open booking to junior players willing to participate. However, the final participants will be selected and will keep to a limit of not more than 40 to increase the effectiveness of the program.

Mankad, a former ATP Professional Tennis player, was top ranked in both Junior and Men’s age groups in India. He has competed against several ATP top 10 players including World No.1 Andy Murray, Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt. He also qualified for the 2010 Wimbledon Main draw in the doubles. Mankad was the No.1 Collegiate Tennis player in Division I USA and has over ten years of professional coaching experience to his name.

This will be the first of many programs of the kind and is an initiative based on providing world class training to the local players here in Sri Lanka. Many athletes lack the finances to travel overseas to receive high intensity training, given that Tennis is a rather expensive sport.
