New Zealand in a comeback win over Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka lost their third match in pool C to New Zealand 3-1 at the 19th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball…

Sri Lanka were defeated in all three of their pool C matches which relegated them to play for the 9th-12th places.

Sri Lanka were defeated in straight sets 25-21, 25-23 & 25-22 the last time these two sides met in the 18th Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in 2015 and ultimately finished 14th and last.

However, this time around Sri Lanka brushed aside Hong Kong in the 1st set winning 25-14. Hong Kong returned the treatment in the 2nd set 14-25. The 3rd set was tightly contested point for point but it was Sri Lanka who edged out their counter-parts 25-23.

Hong Kong needed to win the 4th set and at one point led 13-15. With Sri Lanka breathing down their neck, Hong Kong kept their composure to win the set 23-25 and send the match into a deciding 5th set.

In the 5th set Hong Kong at 9-8 had a slight upper-hand but Sri Lanka fought back to win it 16-14.

Sri Lanka are now in a good position to go to the 9th-12th place semi-finals but will need New Zealand to defeat Hong Kong tomorrow.
