Ashen Gunawardhane propels Isipathana

Isipathana took major honours against Lumbini on a rain hit opening day in the Singer Schools U19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 matches which began today(25).

Isipathana College vs Lumbini College

Isipathana College won the toss and decided to bat first in gloomy conditions at BRC grounds. left-handed fresher Ashen Gunawardhane was the highlight of the innings with a solid 84 off 143 deliveries that included 2 maximums and 12 boundaries. He was supported by Eshan Fernando with 29 runs as the pair put on a 100 run partnership for the 5th wicket to post 183 all out.

Lumbini left-arm spinner Vimukthi Kulathunga picked up 4/57 in 23 overs, while right-arm leggie Gayashan Karunarathne chipped in with two crucial wickets to hold the visitors to 183.

In reply the home team were in a spot of bother as the Pathana bowlers were up to mark at the end of the opening day.

The Cambrians won the toss and elected to bat first in the traditional encounter which commenced in Moratuwa. Right-arm seamer Nipun Lakshan was impressive with 3/22 earlier on to trouble the hosts for 36/4 before heavy rain stopped play for the entire day.

Maliyadeva vs DS Senanayake College

Maliyadeva College won the toss and opted to bat first in the traditional encounter which got underway at Maliyadeva grounds. The hosts got to a good start with right-hander Supun Sumanarathna hitting an unbeaten 27, but rain halted the day’s play after 16 overs.
