On the 3rd and final day of the ‘Indoor Segment’ of the 10th Munchee National Volleyball Championship 2017 Men’s Super League, Air Force SC and Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) defeated Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) & Army SC respectively to finish on top of group A & B.

The matches were played at the National Youth Services Council Indoor Stadium in Maharagama.

Ports, Air Force, CEB & Army stay unbeaten

After two days of the ‘Indoor Segment’ of the 10th Munchee..

Group A

Defending champions SLPA, took on Air Force SC in a match which would decide who finishes on top of group A. Ports had Sri Lanka players in Janitha Surath, Lasindu Wasanthapriya, Rumesh Dissanayake and Nilanka Sanjaya.

However, it was Air Force who had Sri Lanka U23 player Danushka Dilshan and veteran Jagath Sanjaya who controlled the game. Air Force won the first set 25-19 and the 2nd set 25-20.

Ports needing a win in the 3rd set, worked hard to get it 20-25 but Air Force upped their game in the 4th set to win 25-20.

In a bottom of the table clash, Police SC and Navy SC went the distance in a thrilling five setter. Navy won the first set 25-18 and Police replied winning the 2nd 23-25. Navy again took a 2-1 lead winning the 3rd set 25-19 only to see Police hit-back 21-25 to send the game into a decider.

Navy, were able to pull away in the latter stages of the 5th set to win 15-10.

Group B

Last year’s runners-up CEB face off against Army SC which went down to the wire. CEB won the 1st set, which went to sudden death, 29-27. Army SC won the 2nd set 22-25 but CEB rallied back to make it 2-1 winning the 3rd 25-23.

Army won the 4th set 22-25 sending the game into a 5th set. Again, it needed extra points as CEB won 16-14.

In group B’s bottom of the table clash, it too needed a five setter to decide a winner. Mercantile champions MAS Leisure Line won against NYSC, 25-20, 25-20, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12.
