Zahira College Maradana was handed a walkover to the semi final of the Sri Lanka Schools’ Football Association U19 Division I tournament after Ananda College pulled out of the quarter final fixture due to a disciplinary issue.

The master in charge of football for Ananda College, after a lengthy discussion with the referees, decided to hand a walk-over to the Zahirians as the game was called off even before the kick-off.

It appeared that the master in charge had come to this decision as some players did not adhere to certain disciplinary requests regarding the players’ conduct made by himself and the coach.

In a post-game inquiry regarding the incident made by ThePapare.com, the referees too acknowledged the fact that school level players should be held to such disciplinary measures as schools’ football is not only to nurture a specific individual’s skill and talent but moreover develop their discipline as sportsmen.

Editor’s note – As per the request of Ananda College we removed the previous photograph of the said player. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to the school and player.
