Ananda College takes major honours on day one

Two matches in the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the island. 

Ananda College, Colombo vs Dharmaraja College, Kandy

The Under 19 Division 1 clash between Anacrnda College and Dharmaraja College commenced today at Dharmaraja College, Kandy. Rajans’ skipper Bawantha Udangamuwa won the toss and decided to bat first but failed to impress with the bat as they were bowled out for 137 runs. Right handed batsman Dulaj Bandara was the main contributor with the bat as he stroked 73 runs for the lads from Kandy.

Left arm spinner, Asel Sigera, was the pick of the bowlers for the Anandians with 3 wickets for 32 runs. In addition Chamika Gunasekara, Damindu Reshan and Shamal Hirushan picked up three wickets each. In reply, Ananda top order batsmen went after the Dharmaraja bowlers with an aggressive mindset as they finished day one on 74 runs for 1 wicket in 11 overs. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.

St. Servatius College, Matara vs St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa

Group C fixture between St. Servatius College and St. Joseph Vaz College commenced today at St. Sebastian’s College grounds, Katuneriya. After being asked to bat first, St. Joseph Vaz College managed to post only 169 runs on the scoreboard as they were bowled out within 47.3 overs. Anjana Rukmal (55) and Nipun Dananjaya (39) were the major contributors with the bat for the lads from Wennappuwa.

Shashika Dulshan picked up 6 wickets for 21 runs for St. Servatius College. In reply, the Matara boys scored 59 runs for 2 wickets when umpires called stumps on day one. Supun Kavinda remained unbeaten on 40 runs. Match will continue tomorrow for day two.
