An inquiry to be launched on ‘grass-trimming’ fiasco

Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara has launched an independent inquiry on the ‘pitch-trimming’ revelations made by senior fast bowler Lasith Malinga during last week’s brainstorming workshop held at Water’s Edge, Battaramulla.

The Sri Lankan who pioneered the TV Umpire Concept in Cricket

Over the years, the gentlemen’s game has gone through rapid transformations…

“Malinga requested us to have an inquiry on the misdeeds which happened while preparing pitches during the recent Indian series and due to that fact, an additional secretary at the Ministry will lead the investigations on this matter.” Minister stated in a press release.

The one-day brainstorming session was attended by the members of the national team, former cricketers, SLC employees, media personnel and Sports Ministry officials. It stressed upon many issues faced by Sri Lanka Cricket currently, such as revamping the domestic cricket structure, a consistent selection policy and transparent administration.

Workshop to create new directions to uplift Sri Lanka Cricket

Sports Ministry conducted a special workshop on Friday with the presence of all Sri Lanka…

“When we asked for a grass track, they trim the grass and give us a grassless track,” Malinga had said. “When we asked why the grass was cut, they say they used the wrong blade. This has happened not once but twice. I notified the authorities but nothing happened. I am not saying we lost matches because of that but, when things don’t happen the way we want, the players lose confidence.” He further stated.
