Hales, who was named in England’s World Cup squad, had made himself unavailable for the games and no timetable was set for his return, the county had said in a statement. Though he will be returning for the England camp, Hales will not feature in Nottinghamshire’s home game against Leicestershire on Friday.

The camp in Cardiff will also feature Chris Jordan and Jofra Archer, both of whom aren’t in the preliminary 15-man squad but could find a way into it with good performances against Ireland and Pakistan.

There were injury scares for England too. Both Eoin Morgan and Jason Roy missed a game each in the domestic One-Day Cup but both will travel to Cardiff.
