The Super Eights stage of the Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League Tier A tournament began today(17), with four matches kicking off around the island.

Army SC who stunned Ragama CC last weekend, put up a defiant show with the bat to reach 227/7 in 90 overs against CCC.

Lakshan Edirisinghe was the main stay in their innings as he made 61, while Himasha Liyanage and Dilshan De Soyza made useful 40’s.

For CCC it was their go-to man with the ball Malinda Pushpakumara who stood out once again, as he captured 3/78 to inch closer towards the magical 50 wicket mark this season.

SSC vs Tamil Union

Half centuries from experienced heads Kaushal Silva and Dhammika Prasad lifted SSC to a competitive 321 all-out in their first innings.

Krishan Sanjula and Sachithra Senanayake missed out on half centuries by a whisker, but their contributions made sure SSC went past the 300 run mark on a tricky surface.

For Tamil Union it was all-rounder Ramith Rambukwella who captured five wickets with his right arm off spin along with left arm tweaker Damitha Silva who captured three wickets.

NCC vs Colts

Akila Dananjaya who was suspended from bowling in international cricket recently, picked up a five wicket haul in his second game since bowling with a remodeled action.

Dananjaya who was seen working very hard with the coaches at the High Performance Center at Kettarama, reaped rewards in a patient spell against a quality NCC batting unit.

He went on to capture 5/72 while Jehan Daniel chipped in with a couple of wickets to bowl out NCC for 251 in 56.1 overs.

Lahiru Udara made another half century before he was dismissed for 85, while NImesha Gunasinghe made a useful 44.

Colts lost the grip they had on the game in their batting effort as they were 4/56 when stumps were drawn with Daniel unbeaten on 28*.

Saracens vs Chilaw Marians

Gamindu Kanishka’s magnificent century lifted Saracens to 258/3 in 90 overs in their match against Chilaw Marians.

Kanishka eventually fell for 109 late in the day, but Pramod Maduwantha remained not out on 93* as Saracens were in the bow wear when stumps were drawn.

Nimesh Vimukthi’s left arm spin was the only form of threat the Saracens had as he capture 2/51 after toiling hard throughout the day.
