At the end of the 3rd day of the National Age Swimming Championship held at the Sugathadasa swimming pool, Visakha and St. Joseph’s continued to dominate the leaderboard.

The highlights for the day were Alvin Arulmaran and Akalanka Peiris who won 4 gold medals each and Vanuja Kannangara and Vinoli Kaluarachchi who won 3 medals each.

Alvin Arulmaran from Gateway College won all his events in the under 15 boy’s age group. The following were his events, the 100 LC meter Freestyle clocking in at 58.60, the 50 LC meter Backstroke clocking in at 31.44, the 200 LC meter Freestyle with a timing of 2:10.74 and the 100 LC meter Backstroke with a timing of 1:09.28 in total he ended the day with 4 gold medals next to his name.

Akalanka Peiris from St. Peter’s College who has already established himself as a someone to lookout for in the water through previous meets lived up to his name winning gold in the following event in the under 18 boy’s category, the 100 LC meter Freestyle finishing in 52.79, the 50 LC meter Backstroke clocking in at 28.16, the 50 LC meter Butterfly with a timing of 25.24 and finally the 100 LC meter Backstroke clocking in at 59.87.

Vinoli Kaluarachchi from Sirimavo added 3 more gold medals to the 2 she won yesterday winning the 100 LC meter Freestyle in 1:02.93, the 50 LC meter Backstroke clocking in at 32.43 and the 100 LC meter Backstroke with a timing of 1:10.51 in the under 18 age category.

Vanuja kannangara performed similarly winning 3 gold medals as well in the under 13 age group as he was placed first in the 100 LC meter Freestyle with a timing of 1:07.19, the 200 LC meter Freestyle clocking in at 2:28.07 and the 100 LC meter Backstroke finishing in 1:16.96.

Mathew Abeysinghe from Killer Whale Aquatics added one more medal to his collection of 2 from the previous day winning the 100 LC meter Freestyle event with a timing of 53.46 in the 18 and over category although his brother Kyle didn’t perform as well during the 3rd day.
Visakha managed to stay on top of the points board thanks to the likes of Ramudi Samarakoon who won the 400 LC meter IM clocking in at 5:33.65 and the 200LC meter Breaststroke with a timing of 2:49.77 in the under 18 category adding more points to Visakha.

Other notable performances during the day were by D Jayathilake from Lyceum Wattala in the under 18 boy’s category who won both the 200 LC meter Breaststroke and the 400 LC meter IM in 2:38.71 and 5:09.88 respectively. Nabashie Perera from Sirimavo also performed well during the day winning the 400 LC meter IM and the 50 LC meter Butterfly in the under 13 category with timings of 6:22.78 and 32.64 respectively.

A Kalyanasundaram from Lyceum Wattala too had a noteworthy performance as she dominated both the 100 LC and 50 LC meter Freestyle events in the under 15 age group winning both clocking in at 1:04.93 and 2:22.13 respectively.

Similar to day 02 by the end of day 03 St. Joseph’s still led with 269 points followed by Ananda College and Lyceum Wattala with 295 and 203 points respectively.

There has been no change to the leader in the girl’s category either, with Visakha Vidyalaya leading with 354.50 points followed by Lyceum Wattala with 304 points and Sirimavo Bandaranaika Vidyalaya by 198 points.

The meet will continue today at the same venue and will go on until the 5th of June.
