ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2019 kicked off today, 14th November with four games being worked off in two parts of Bangladesh. Sri Lanka played their first game against Oman at Coxs Bazar Academy.

After winning the toss, Oman skipper, Ameer Kaleem, invited the Lankans to take the first lease of the crease. Two players who are in red-hot form, Pathum Nissanka and Minod Bhanuka opened the batting for Sri Lanka.

They gave a positive start with a 50-run stand at the beginning of the innings. But, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at crucial intervals and most of the batsmen got off to a good start but did not capitalize on it.

Young but experienced Ashen Bandara scored a valuable 62 runs coming in at the No. 6 position. His knock which lasted 51 deliveries, saw four boundaries and two sixers. Skipper, Charith Asalanka scored a responsible 57 runs while opener Pathum Nissanka also wrote 40 runs to his name.

Sri Lanka amassed 261 runs in their quota losing their last wicket in the last ball of the innings.

Ismail Ibrahim was the star with the ball for team Oman. Bowling his quota for 41 runs and picking up 3 scalps, he put Oman on track in the latter part of the first-innings. He accounted for the wickets of the top-scorer Ashen Bandara, dangerous Sammu Ashan and the rising star, Kamindu Mendis. Those names would prove his spell much more valuable than the numbers.

Defending champions Sri Lanka depart for Emerging Asia Cup 2019

Emerging teams Asia Cup champions of the last two consecutive years, Sri Lanka will depart….

Oman saw a sloppy start in their reply losing early wickets at the start of their chase. Ibrahim was the first to go with 42 on the board. Then Amila Aponso struck a double blow picking up 2 in 2 at 67. They soon at 90 for 4 and looked brittle in their chase. But, opener Jatjinder Singh held one end while the other crumbled. He then put up a match-winning 148-run partnership with Suraj Kumar to wipe Sri Lanka completely out of the game.

Suraj Kumar scored a brilliant 70 while Jatinder architected a stellar ton to seal the game for Oman. The right-hander remained unbeaten at 131 runs as Oman reached the target in 48.5 overs.

Amila Aponso was the only successful bowler for Sri Lanka Emerging Team as the left-arm spinner bagged 3 for 40.

In the rest of the games played in the tourney today, India recorded a 7-wicket win against Nepal, Pakistan won against Afghanistan and Bangladesh defeated Hong Kong by 9 wickets.

Sri Lanka Emerging Team will next play Pakistan Emerging Team on the 16th of November in Coxs Bazar.
