Colombo B and Royal’s battle end with a very close victory for Colombo B

The game gained lot of attention among the spectators. Colombo B literally trashed group A of Division 2 before to getting into match against the Royal Basketball Club. The Royalists were furious but it was the first time they were scaling themselves against Colombo B. Getting on to scoring as soon as the whistle went of, Colombo was at an advantage early on. Dimitri was on the hunt for the ball; he is known to have a very high efficiency.  He was not quite the long shot shooting figure in this game. The Royalist always kept an eye out.

Having an advantageous start, Colombo B was on top by 7 points by the half time. But as we have seen early on in the game, the  Royalists were making a great comeback to Colombo’s tactics. This reduced the overall score of the game immensely. At the same time Sameera Chanaka was shaping into his outstanding performance. Though his overall personal score was just 12 points – compared to the 16 points by Dimitri for Colombo B- Sameer had a better hand at the game due to the support he had from the team. The Royalists scoring pattern being distributed all over the players, further testifies the team effort they invested on the game.

After  half-time a major game plan changed in Royalists play. The Colombo folks were at a huge disadvantage. They were mostly depending on the star player. Mark Willie being the second best performer for Colombo scored 15 points; out of the 51 points Dimitri and Mark solely contributed 31. It was not same context in Royal’s play. Only 22 points were contributed by the leading two players, showing they were more resourceful in the game.

Towards the end, the Royalists being more familiar with the moves of Colombo, had a huge advantage over catching up the point gap. The final few minutes of the game was a smart play. The Royalists knew in mind which players to reach for defense, but they were also careful enough to not give any fouls. Jualin Guansinghe was the final scorer for Royal. But it was not good enough to change game. Ultimately, the game wrapped in favor of Colombo B by 1 point.  Yes, and it was a truly breathtaking game for all the Basketball fans.
