The Asian Indoor Athletics Championship was all set to take place on the 12th and 13th of February in Hangzhou City, China which is located just above the primary Ground Zero of the virus, Wuhan.

The virus broke loose just over a month ago in Wuhan, spreading fast across China and reaching foreign lands at a dangerous pace.

Seven of Sri Lanka’s top athletes who performed exceptionally well at the recently concluded South Asian Games 2019, were chosen to tour the Asian Indoor Championship this February, but all that will not come to an abrupt stop.

The Asian athletics governing body decided for an emergency telephone conference on Sunday evening following the global outbreak of the virus which originated from Wuhan in the Chinese mainland.

China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported 1,975 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus resulting in 56 deaths by the end of Saturday.
